Uttar Pradesh – A State of the Indian Republic

Uttar Pradesh came into existence on 24 January 1950 (note: officially, the name Uttar Pradesh was adopted in 1950, though the state was reorganized in 1949).

Before this, it was known as the United Provinces (Sangukta Pradesh) — a region formed during British India by combining Awadh and Rohilkhand.
